A Welcome to Country is a ceremony performed by a local Aboriginal person of significance (usually an Elder) to acknowledge and give a blessing for events to take place respectfully on their traditional lands. It is a practice and protocol which dates back to way before colonisation.
This Welcome is presented by Bunurong Elder Uncle Mik Edwards and is provided in the Botanical Gardens at a site of cultural significance. Through this Welcome, the People of the Bunurong welcome you to their Country and ask that you respect the Lore of Country and respects their Cultural ways.
The Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation are a Traditional Owner organisation that represent the Bunurong People of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation. Their aim is to care for and protect the sacred lands, waterways and living creature of our their ancient lands.
